The Rundown on Male Testosterone

When you hear the word testosterone, what comes to mind? Many folks think of a large, muscle-bound man who is too aggressive and macho. Of course, that stereotype is untrue. Testosterone plays a role in a man's motivation and vigor, but it does much more than that. The truth is that testosterone is crucial for the male body because it affects development from puberty through old age.

As your primary androgen, testosterone helps develop the characteristics that make you the man you are. Controlled by your pituitary gland and your hypothalamus, testosterone helps maintain and develop:

  • Sperm
  • Facial Hair
  • Muscle Mass
  • Body Hair
  • Libido
  • Sexual Function
  • Bone Density
  • Red Blood Cell Levels

Unfortunately, when your body suffers from low testosterone (also called hypogonadism), you'll start to notice concerning symptoms that affect every aspect of your life.

What Causes Low Testosterone?

This is a question we get all the time at Rank One Medical. Though the true answer is nuanced, the bottom line is that aging is most often the reason for low T. Every man who ages will most likely have lower testosterone than younger men. Other causes of low testosterone include prescribed medications, drug abuse, injuries, and obesity.

When you lose large amounts of testosterone, it alters your testosterone and estrogen. Low T levels usually result in more abdominal fat, which in turn causes estrogen synthetase levels to jump. This creates even higher levels of estrogen in your body. With more estrogen and less testosterone, several concerning issues manifest.

Some of the most common symptoms associated with low testosterone include:

  • Erectile Dysfunction or ED
  • Low Libido
  • Increased Body Fat
  • Low Sperm Count
  • Development of Breasts
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Lack of Motivation
  • Depleted Muscle Mass
  • Fatigue

If you're a man struggling with just one of the symptoms above, it could be because you have low testosterone. However, the only way to be certain is to have your testosterone levels tested. If your testosterone levels are low for a man of your age, TRT in Claremore, OK, may be the next logical step.

 TRT Claremore, OK

How the Symptoms of Low Testosterone Affect Your Life

Have you noticed that you don't feel like "you" when you're working or relaxing at home? Do you always feel lethargic or unmotivated, even on your days off? Do you find it challenging to maintain an erection? Many men mistake these symptoms for being overworked or over-busy. Truthfully, though, there's a good chance these are symptoms of low testosterone. Since no two males have the same symptoms of low testosterone, it's prudent to understand and recognize some of the most common signs.

Low Libido

When you have low T, it's not unusual for sex to be unappealing. Crazy, right? If you're one of the thousands of men in the United States suffering from a low sex drive, it might not be you. It could be low testosterone. Don't settle for a mediocre libido - reclaim your sex life with Rank One Medical.

Erectile Dysfunction

Also called ED, these are two words that every man hopes to avoid. When you're unable to perform in the bedroom, it's not just embarrassing - it can also affect your long-term relationships and even your mental health. ED is a challenging topic to talk about. But it doesn't have to be. TRT in Claremore, OK can help re-light that special spark you've been missing for so long.

Depression

Your brain has many testosterone receptors. However, when you're suffering from low testosterone, it can affect your mood. With time, those feelings can lead to serious psychological issues like depression. However, studies show that TRT can help rebalance your hormones, which can lead to improved mood and a life without depression.

Sleeplessness

When you work hard all day, most men want to come home, eat some dinner, and try to go to sleep. Unfortunately, men with low testosterone tend to toss and turn, even when they're exhausted. Whether you have undiagnosed insomnia or a different sleep disorder, low T could be the culprit.

Decreased Muscle Mass

When testosterone levels lower as we get older, men have a harder time lifting heavy items. That's true even if you're hitting the gym and lifting weights to maintain your muscles. If you're making a concerted effort to keep your muscle mass and strength but aren't making gains, it could be due to low testosterone.

Concentration Issues

Do you find it extra challenging to finish normal tasks at work? Do you believe your memory is getting worse? Does your spouse or partner yell about not paying attention to them? Trust us; we've been there. The effects of low testosterone don't just affect your body - they can also affect your mind and memory. When TRT brings your testosterone levels back within normal range, brain fog and other concentration issues will often go away.

Understanding the Risks of Life with Low Testosterone

At Rank One Medical, we understand what men go through every day when living with low testosterone. They suffer from low libido, lack of motivation, and often feel abnormal and out of place. But as bad as those are, living with low testosterone can have more severe health risks that put your vital organs at risk.

Some of the health risks you should be concerned with include the following:

 Weight Loss Therapy Claremore, OK

Diabetes

When you're diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes, you may be wondering why. Sometimes, the culprit is having low T. Statistically, men with low testosterone have a higher chance of getting diabetes as they age. In the same vein of thought, men with diabetes are also much more likely to have low T. This fact establishes a relationship between testosterone and diabetes. This relationship is furthered by the fact that men with low testosterone have more challenges resisting insulin. Though TRT in Claremore, OK won't cure your diabetes, research shows that men with healthy testosterone levels also have healthier blood sugar levels and are usually not as obese.

 Peptide Therapy Claremore, OK

Heart Health

Have you been told by your primary care doctor that you have high blood pressure? Do you have an idea what may be causing your high blood pressure? Is it aging? Is it hereditary? Is it something else?

According to research, men with low testosterone have higher chances of suffering from cardiovascular illnesses. Because, when your testosterone levels are low, red blood cell reproduction slows. That, in turn, causes plaque buildup in your arteries. With time, plaque buildup can cause life-threatening issues like heart attacks or strokes.

Obesity

If you look in the mirror in the morning and are disgusted with how fat you've gotten, you're not alone. Many aging men have problems with obesity. If you eat well and exercise like you should but still can't shed embarrassing body fat, low T could be the cause.

Research shows a link between obesity and low T, with testosterone playing an essential role in food metabolism. It's also involved with insulin, glucose, and fat regulation. Thankfully, when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise, men who use TRT often lose weight and benefit from better blood glucose and low-density cholesterol levels.

 Weight Loss Claremore, OK

Anemia

When a man has anemia, his body lacks much-needed blood cells, meaning organs have less oxygen to properly function. Normal testosterone levels have been linked to healthy red blood cell counts, so it makes sense that men with low T are at risk of anemia. In fact, a study conducted in 2009 found that aging men with low testosterone were five times more likely to have anemia versus men with healthy testosterone. TRT isn't a cure for anemia, but with healthier levels of testosterone, your body will produce more red blood cells, which can prevent anemia.

Reclaim the Life You Love with TRT in Claremore, OK

Up to this point, we've explained some of the revolutionary benefits of TRT but haven't dug into how it works. TRT does exactly what its name implies: it's a therapy backed by science that replaces low T levels in men.

Also called androgen replacement therapy, TRT is a form of hormone replacement therapy for men that helps them deal with and triumph over the debilitating side effects associated with low testosterone. Originally created by scientists in the 1930s, TRT has grown from a little-known treatment to a life-changing solution for millions of men worldwide.

How Does TRT Work?

Without boring you with facts and scientific speak, TRT gives your body the testosterone it needs to function properly. Without healthy T levels, your body isn't able to maintain the natural processes it needs for your well-being. As a matter of fact, men with low T are more likely to develop serious health problems like heart disease and type-2 diabetes. Until their testosterone levels are restored, most men suffer from the symptoms of low testosterone without hormone replacement therapy like TRT.

With TRT from Rank One Medical, your hormones are rebalanced so your body can finally begin to heal, relieving and even eliminating many of the most common signs of low testosterone.

Claremore got a taste of Hollywood this week. For two days, a Tulsa production company filmed two episodes of a podcast-television series in Claremore’s downtown area.

They filmed at Sailor Antiques and Collectibles, Dots Café and more. The Claremore Area Chamber of Commerce says they can’t say when the episodes will air, but they will be on the Trinity Broadcast Network. They also couldn’t share the name of the TV series. They say a big name actor was featured in these episodes, but they can’t reveal who just yet.

Filming wrapped up Tuesday night, and the series is about different people. One episode filmed in Claremore is about Bonnie Parker from the 1930s bank robbing team, Bonnie and Clyde. The other episode is about Sylvester Stallone.

The owner of Dots Café says it was fun to see her place transform. Melinda Knight says, “I didn’t even recognize it. Everything was changed. It looked like the 30s. It was cute.”

Claremore City Manager John Feary says Oklahoma is quickly becoming the next hotspot for film, and it was nice to see the city be recognized for its charm.

“They took one of our great antique stores on Main Street and changed the basic façade with some posters and things, so it looked like a liquor store, as opposed to an antique shop,” said Feary.

Oklahoma has seen multiple film productions come its way recently.

Tulsa Public Schools’ Board of Education approved an agreement allowing the production crew for FX’s Reservation Dogs to use the former Park Elementary School while they work on season two of the series.

The major motion picture “Killers of the Flower Moon” finished filming in Pawhuska last year, and the movie’s release date is expected soon.

With bitter cold temperatures in the forecast, one Claremore ministry is making sure everyone has the essentials they need to bundle up and stay warm.

The building isn’t flashy, but the assortment of clothes stocked inside doesn’t look too different from what you’d expect to find in your average clothing store. It’s all part of Claremore First United Methodist Church’s Amazing Grace Clothes closet.

“We have women’s items, men’s items,” Laurie Ault said. “We have a lot of collection of really nice warm clothing items.”

The best part is, everything is totally for free anyone who needs it. It’s all been donated.

It’s the spirit of giving taught in scripture that is part of why associate pastor Tim McHugh says the church focused its ministry on projects like this one.

“The biggest reason is because Jesus said to, but the other reason is because we’ve all been in those spots where we just needed something to get us over that hump,” McHugh said. “We can’t frown down on people just because they’re in a different spot than we are.”

It’s been a little over a year since Ault took the challenge to get the closet going.

“For three months of 2021, the first three months, we collected items,” Ault said.

After three months, the stack of donated clothes rose to over three feet high across an entire room.

“Of course just seeing the sheer volume of it is overwhelming,” she said.

And they’ve been keeping busy since opening the doors.

“Everything comes through here and moves through here very rapidly,” she said.

Things go especially quick when the weather changes.

“We’re asking again for children’s coats because they flew out of here,” Ault said.

But if you need to stay warm this weekend, they’ve got you covered.

“Heavy coats and good things that will keep people warm,” she said. “I mean what guy wouldn’t give for a Carhartt men’s jacket?”

It’s all thanks to the generosity of an entire community that, every day, Ault gets to witness one thing that will never get old.

“Seeing the relief in people’s eyes when they know this is one worry I can check off my list,” she said.

The Amazing Grace Clothes Closet is open every weekday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Claremore First United Methodist Church’s west campus at 9472 State Highway 20. But Ault says if you find yourself in dire need of something outside those hours—especially during this weekend’s bitter cold—do not hesitate give the church a call at 918-341-4580. When you call, a recording will give you information for an on-call number to contact staff to come get you what you need.

You can also drop off donations in a bin outside anytime.

The Walmart Supercenter in Claremore is temporarily closing for two days to allow cleaners to sanitize the building.

The store is expected to reopen Sunday morning at 7 a.m. This will allow time to both clean the store and for associates to restock the shelves.

You can read the full statement from Walmart below:

As an essential business and a member of the Claremore community, we understand the role we play in providing our customers with food, medicine and other essential items, especially at this time.

Health officials are continually working to curb the impact of this pandemic, and we want to be a part of the solution. In support of this effort, we have chosen to temporarily close our Claremore location at 1500 S Lynn Riggs Blvd today at 2 p.m. as part of a company-initiated program. This will allow extra time for a third-party specialist to further sanitize the store and will also give our associates additional time to restock shelves and prepare the store to once again serve the community. We plan to reopen the store to customers at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 25.

Everything we’re doing is for the well-being of our associates and customers, and in consideration of guidance by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and health experts. When the store reopens Sunday, we will continue conducting associate health assessments, and all unvaccinated associates must still wear face coverings.

In addition to offering COVID-19 vaccines to customers through walk-in or online appointments, we’re also offering easy access to vaccines for associates. Associates can receive their vaccinations at their home store pharmacy, on or off the clock.

Should associates choose to schedule their vaccinations elsewhere, we will provide two hours of paid leave. Associates who receive the vaccine are given a $75 bonus for doing so.

These protocols and convenient access to vaccinations are in addition to the extensive measures we’ve put in place during the pandemic to help protect our associates and customers. We will continue working closely with elected and local health officials, adjusting how we serve the community while also keeping the health and safety of our customers and associates in mind.

City of Claremore expecting higher electricity this summer

The City of Claremore said Wednesday that they anticipate higher electric costs this summer.

The increased costs of power and fuel, combined with high customer usage over the summer, is what will contribute to the higher costs, the city said.

“Although the City of Claremore and GRDA have no control over these rising costs, we want to inform Claremore electric customers as early as possible so that they may plan for and budget for the increased costs and practice energy conservation,” said Claremore City Manager John Feary said in a press release.

For many utilities, including GRDA, natural gas remains a primary fuel source for power generation. Just as fuel costs have increased at the pump, those same increased costs are also felt by electric generators. According to GRDA, natural gas markets in the month of May were up 291 percent, as compared to May 2021. They were also much higher in the month of April as compared to last year. The U.S. Energy Information Administration advises these high market prices for gas are not anticipated to drop anytime soon due to factors including higher summer temperatures, electricity demands and the War in Ukraine.

GRDA utilizes a power cost adjustment (PCA) mechanism to calculate the variable costs of energy production. GRDA utilizes a beneficial mixture of generation resources, including coal, wind and hydropower, and a 12-month rolling average to help with some of the variability. The PCA rate is passed to consumers and the City of Claremore does not profit from it.

Information on summer energy conservation tips can be found on the Energy Efficient Claremore page and more information about rising costs is available via the American Public Power Association.

Claremore Animal Control is looking into complaints about a local groomer.

In a Facebook group, some former clients and employees have said the business, Clips and Bows, has injured pets. The business’s attorney says “the social media campaign against the business is unfounded.”

The story starts when Debbie Haddock took her 17-year-old dog, Yogi Bear, to Clips and Bows in Claremore a few months ago. She says she’s gone there before and never had a problem. When she picked him up this time, he had a nosebleed.

Haddock says, “She (the groomer) said she had a nosebleed, and I said she’s 17 years old and she’s never had a nosebleed.”

Haddock adds, “Something just didn’t seem right; you know when you just get a feeling sometimes?”

Her granddaughter heard what happened and later posted about the experience in a Facebook group. That post had around 250 comments. Some clients commented, saying they trusted the owner and had been using the business for years.

Others shared their own experiences; some saying their pets left with injuries.

Shari Paddlety-Dodd says she took her cat Pursey to Clips and Bows before Thanksgiving. She says, “When I picked him up that day from the groomers, she pointed it out to me and asked me if he had a runny eye.”

A few days later a vet had to remove that eye, which a vet bill FOX23′s Amanda Gilbert obtained showed cost more than $900.

Shari says, “I kept asking what would cause this? How did this happen; she said him scratching himself wouldn’t have done this. It would have either had to be nicked it in the eye or blunt force trauma. She said that’s usually what causes a pet to lose their eyes.”

Claremore Animal Control says they only recently started to get reports about the business.

“There’s just too many similar stories for it to be a coincidence,” Shari says.

SueAnn Jones says she is a former employee at Clips and Bows. She adds, “The ones that were kind of aggressive; if they go to bite, she would shove clippers in their mouths, and I watched her hit them.” Jones says she quit working there.

Haddock says the law firm representing Clips and Bows Pet Grooming sent a letter to her granddaughter in the mail. Parts of it reads, “Our client acknowledges your grandmother’s dog did have a nosebleed during its visit.”

It adds, “Our client was transparent and did not attempt to conceal the nosebleed.” It responds to the original Facebook post, where Haddock’s granddaughter alleges other injuries, stating, “we demand that you provide documentation of veterinary treatment…” Finally it asks the family to, “remove all written defamatory statements.”

FOX23 asked Haddock if her family was going to remove their statement on Facebook. She says, “No, we’re not taking that post down; there’s just too many comments.”

She says, “Our animals; we’re taking them and putting them in the care of somebody. It’s just like you do with your children in a daycare. We’re expecting them to take care of them.”

Claremore Animal Control has no said if these complaints have started a formal investigation or not.
