The Rundown on Male Testosterone

When you hear the word testosterone, what comes to mind? Many folks think of a large, muscle-bound man who is too aggressive and macho. Of course, that stereotype is untrue. Testosterone plays a role in a man's motivation and vigor, but it does much more than that. The truth is that testosterone is crucial for the male body because it affects development from puberty through old age.

As your primary androgen, testosterone helps develop the characteristics that make you the man you are. Controlled by your pituitary gland and your hypothalamus, testosterone helps maintain and develop:

  • Sperm
  • Facial Hair
  • Muscle Mass
  • Body Hair
  • Libido
  • Sexual Function
  • Bone Density
  • Red Blood Cell Levels

Unfortunately, when your body suffers from low testosterone (also called hypogonadism), you'll start to notice concerning symptoms that affect every aspect of your life.

What Causes Low Testosterone?

This is a question we get all the time at Rank One Medical. Though the true answer is nuanced, the bottom line is that aging is most often the reason for low T. Every man who ages will most likely have lower testosterone than younger men. Other causes of low testosterone include prescribed medications, drug abuse, injuries, and obesity.

When you lose large amounts of testosterone, it alters your testosterone and estrogen. Low T levels usually result in more abdominal fat, which in turn causes estrogen synthetase levels to jump. This creates even higher levels of estrogen in your body. With more estrogen and less testosterone, several concerning issues manifest.

Some of the most common symptoms associated with low testosterone include:

  • Erectile Dysfunction or ED
  • Low Libido
  • Increased Body Fat
  • Low Sperm Count
  • Development of Breasts
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Lack of Motivation
  • Depleted Muscle Mass
  • Fatigue

If you're a man struggling with just one of the symptoms above, it could be because you have low testosterone. However, the only way to be certain is to have your testosterone levels tested. If your testosterone levels are low for a man of your age, TRT in Elk City, OK, may be the next logical step.

 TRT Elk City, OK

How the Symptoms of Low Testosterone Affect Your Life

Have you noticed that you don't feel like "you" when you're working or relaxing at home? Do you always feel lethargic or unmotivated, even on your days off? Do you find it challenging to maintain an erection? Many men mistake these symptoms for being overworked or over-busy. Truthfully, though, there's a good chance these are symptoms of low testosterone. Since no two males have the same symptoms of low testosterone, it's prudent to understand and recognize some of the most common signs.

Low Libido

When you have low T, it's not unusual for sex to be unappealing. Crazy, right? If you're one of the thousands of men in the United States suffering from a low sex drive, it might not be you. It could be low testosterone. Don't settle for a mediocre libido - reclaim your sex life with Rank One Medical.

Erectile Dysfunction

Also called ED, these are two words that every man hopes to avoid. When you're unable to perform in the bedroom, it's not just embarrassing - it can also affect your long-term relationships and even your mental health. ED is a challenging topic to talk about. But it doesn't have to be. TRT in Elk City, OK can help re-light that special spark you've been missing for so long.

Depression

Your brain has many testosterone receptors. However, when you're suffering from low testosterone, it can affect your mood. With time, those feelings can lead to serious psychological issues like depression. However, studies show that TRT can help rebalance your hormones, which can lead to improved mood and a life without depression.

Sleeplessness

When you work hard all day, most men want to come home, eat some dinner, and try to go to sleep. Unfortunately, men with low testosterone tend to toss and turn, even when they're exhausted. Whether you have undiagnosed insomnia or a different sleep disorder, low T could be the culprit.

Decreased Muscle Mass

When testosterone levels lower as we get older, men have a harder time lifting heavy items. That's true even if you're hitting the gym and lifting weights to maintain your muscles. If you're making a concerted effort to keep your muscle mass and strength but aren't making gains, it could be due to low testosterone.

Concentration Issues

Do you find it extra challenging to finish normal tasks at work? Do you believe your memory is getting worse? Does your spouse or partner yell about not paying attention to them? Trust us; we've been there. The effects of low testosterone don't just affect your body - they can also affect your mind and memory. When TRT brings your testosterone levels back within normal range, brain fog and other concentration issues will often go away.

Understanding the Risks of Life with Low Testosterone

At Rank One Medical, we understand what men go through every day when living with low testosterone. They suffer from low libido, lack of motivation, and often feel abnormal and out of place. But as bad as those are, living with low testosterone can have more severe health risks that put your vital organs at risk.

Some of the health risks you should be concerned with include the following:

Weight Loss Therapy Elk City, OK

Diabetes

When you're diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes, you may be wondering why. Sometimes, the culprit is having low T. Statistically, men with low testosterone have a higher chance of getting diabetes as they age. In the same vein of thought, men with diabetes are also much more likely to have low T. This fact establishes a relationship between testosterone and diabetes. This relationship is furthered by the fact that men with low testosterone have more challenges resisting insulin. Though TRT in Elk City, OK won't cure your diabetes, research shows that men with healthy testosterone levels also have healthier blood sugar levels and are usually not as obese.

Heart Health

Have you been told by your primary care doctor that you have high blood pressure? Do you have an idea what may be causing your high blood pressure? Is it aging? Is it hereditary? Is it something else?

According to research, men with low testosterone have higher chances of suffering from cardiovascular illnesses. Because, when your testosterone levels are low, red blood cell reproduction slows. That, in turn, causes plaque buildup in your arteries. With time, plaque buildup can cause life-threatening issues like heart attacks or strokes.

Obesity

If you look in the mirror in the morning and are disgusted with how fat you've gotten, you're not alone. Many aging men have problems with obesity. If you eat well and exercise like you should but still can't shed embarrassing body fat, low T could be the cause.

Research shows a link between obesity and low T, with testosterone playing an essential role in food metabolism. It's also involved with insulin, glucose, and fat regulation. Thankfully, when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise, men who use TRT often lose weight and benefit from better blood glucose and low-density cholesterol levels.

 Weight Loss Elk City, OK

Anemia

When a man has anemia, his body lacks much-needed blood cells, meaning organs have less oxygen to properly function. Normal testosterone levels have been linked to healthy red blood cell counts, so it makes sense that men with low T are at risk of anemia. In fact, a study conducted in 2009 found that aging men with low testosterone were five times more likely to have anemia versus men with healthy testosterone. TRT isn't a cure for anemia, but with healthier levels of testosterone, your body will produce more red blood cells, which can prevent anemia.

Reclaim the Life You Love with TRT in Elk City, OK

Up to this point, we've explained some of the revolutionary benefits of TRT but haven't dug into how it works. TRT does exactly what its name implies: it's a therapy backed by science that replaces low T levels in men.

Also called androgen replacement therapy, TRT is a form of hormone replacement therapy for men that helps them deal with and triumph over the debilitating side effects associated with low testosterone. Originally created by scientists in the 1930s, TRT has grown from a little-known treatment to a life-changing solution for millions of men worldwide.

How Does TRT Work?

Without boring you with facts and scientific speak, TRT gives your body the testosterone it needs to function properly. Without healthy T levels, your body isn't able to maintain the natural processes it needs for your well-being. As a matter of fact, men with low T are more likely to develop serious health problems like heart disease and type-2 diabetes. Until their testosterone levels are restored, most men suffer from the symptoms of low testosterone without hormone replacement therapy like TRT.

With TRT from Rank One Medical, your hormones are rebalanced so your body can finally begin to heal, relieving and even eliminating many of the most common signs of low testosterone.

Taking a look back at Jimmy Carter's 1979 visit to Elk City

ELK CITY (KOKH) — While former President Jimmy Carter receives hospice care at his home in Georgia, Oklahomans are remembering a special visit the President made in 1979.

Former President Jimmy Carter visited Elk City while campaigning in 1975.

He promised to return if he was elected President, and he kept that promise in 1979 when he made his way back to Elk City.

Carter said out of all the places he visited for town hall meetings when he was president, the best trip he ever had was in Elk City.

During President Carter's visit, he stayed with Larry R. Wade, the Mayor of Elk City and publisher of the Elk City Daily.

Elizabeth Wade, Larry's daughter, was only a baby when Carter visited, but her family told her many stories about his time in Elk City.

She says one of her favorites happened after the President went out for a jog.

"When he came back in it had rained the night before, and he tracked a little mud into the entryway, and the lady that was my grandmother's best friend... she walks in, and here's the President of the United States on his hands and knees scrubbing the floor," Wade said, "She said, my goodness, Mr. President, please, please get up, let me clean that up for you, and he said, no, ma'am, where I come from if you make a mess, you clean it up yourself."

During Carter's 1979 visit, he held a town hall meeting at Elk City High School.

Many wanted to attend the meeting, but the gym could only seat about 1200 people according to the Washington Post.

While former President Jimmy Carter receives hospice care at his home in Georgia, Oklahomans are remembering a special visit the President made in 1979.

Former President Jimmy Carter visited Elk City while campaigning in 1975.

"I mean, they literally drew a lottery to see who could go into his town hall meeting while he was President and held a Q&A with any random members of the community that drew the lottery," said Wade, "It was like you know more than 10% of the town was there."

President Carter is from the small town of Plains, Georgia, which gave him a special appreciation for Elk City.

"You know, he was a small-town boy... he got the rural environment like it was just kind of his people," Wade said.

Wade says his visit was a memorable one for Elk City and brought the community together.

"It was a community-defining moment that... brought together people that it didn't matter what your politics were, it was just exciting," she said.

She says the visit was not only memorable for the community but also for Carter himself.

"I think it was almost like exciting for him just to be a part of that for another town, you know, to be able to give that to a rural town that doesn't get that kind of traffic," said Wade.

Many Oklahomans remember Carter as not only a great president but also a great man.

He worked closely with Habitat for Humanity since the 1980s, leading the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project for over 30 years.

"I mean, what he's done since he left office and his involvement with Habitat, and the sort of the attention he's brought to us, our mission, and what we do has been spectacular," said President & CEO of Rose Rock Habitat for Humanity, Randy Gardner, "Certainly, I know he hasn't left us yet but it will be a loss that will be certainly felt when he does pass because he is an icon in our industry."

Carter is the oldest living president in US history, at 98 years old.

ELK CITY, Okla. (KFOR) – In the Oklahoma before statehood, before the first shopping carts (invented by an Oklahoma City grocer), historian Charles Wren might have been a stockboy or even a young owner of a general store instead of a museum curator.

“In rural Oklahoma, the general store was the only store in town,” Charles states.

He was the guy who really did inventory and stock the shelves at the new Route 66 General Store Museum with thousands of items just as they might have looked in the heyday of the rural dry goods outlet.

“A general store merchant,” he continues, “was a guy who had a bunch of stuff and who needed a building to set it all up to sell to everyone.”

Some of the products on the shelves are still around.

We found old containers of Quaker Oats, Clabber Girl Baking Powder, and even Grape Nuts cereal.

But the Sleepy Eye Flour, the Crystal White Cleanser, and Kickapoo Oil for aches and pains are all products from a bygone era.

Explaining how the old general store system worked, Wren points out, “You’d tell the clerk what you want like shortening. He’d grab it for you then wrap it up in paper and string. They didn’t have paper bags yet.”

We first found the same antique containers at the old Flying W Guest Ranch 15 years ago.

Don Whinery found them in a closed down mercantile in Eastern Oklahoma.

“Some of the items, we didn’t know what they were,” he told us in 2007. “We had to go find out.”

All this was eventually donated to the Route 66 Museum complex in Elk City where it waited for a new building and a historian like Wren who could figure out how to set it all up.

He points to a cream separator and admits, “I didn’t know what a cream separator was until I asked someone and they told me.”

In Elk City, F.E. Herring ran one of several general stores. He also opened several others in surrounding towns.

Herring was successful enough to fund a campaign for governor just after statehood. His memory and this style of retail business may be gone.

You can’t purchase any of the items in this store, but you can look if you want and remember the one-stop shops of Oklahoma yesteryear.

For more information on the new general store exhibit or any of the other attractions at the Route 66 Museum Complex go to visitelkcity.com.

July 10, 2023

Multiple storms with heavy rainfall and dangerously high winds ravished western Oklahoma over the weekend that left downed trees and trees limbs in its wake in multiple cities in the area.

It appears that the I-40 trio of Elk City, Clinton, and Weatherford received the most damage, with Weatherford seeing the most structure damage after Sunday morning’s storm. The Weatherford Church of Christ had sustained major roof damage that left a hole, and other homes in Weatherford sustained damage as well.

In Clinton, Friday night’s storm tore back pieces of the Homeland store’s roof as well as a local auto parts store. The communications tower at Clinton City Hall was also blown down due to the straight line winds. As a result, the city’s 911 service was knocked out briefly Friday night but was restored about an hour later.

Elk City’s damage seems to be limited mostly to downed trees and tree limbs, however the Elk City Walmart did suffer damage from Sunday morning’s storms. The city has announced that residents can take tree limbs to the city landfill free of charge now through Saturday. Officials ask that if a resident is elderly or physically unable to move trees to ask for assistance.

Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says fortunately there have been no reports of injuries from the two storms.

Audio Player

Foss Lake State Park took a hit Friday night too.

According to Park Manager Barry Hardaway a popular campground will be closed for at least a month after sustaining heavy tree damage.

Audio Player

Hardaway says the park’s main boat ramp will need repairs after being damaged, and said even the park’s headquarters was damaged during Friday night’s storm.

Other towns in the area such as Woodward and Shattuck also have reported structure damage after the weekend storms.

So how bad were the winds?

According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, wind gusts reported during Friday night’s storms had Elk City taking on a 68mph gust, and Altus receiving a 61mph wind gust. The town of Beaver in the panhandle recorded an 83mph wind gust during Friday night’s storms.

Sunday morning’s storms had Elk City’s mesonet site report a 62mph wind gust while Weatherford had a 59mph wind gust at it’s site.

Unfortunately more storms are in the forecast this week with a 30% chance of showers and storms – with damaging winds – predicted for tonight, and more storm chances predicted for the end of the week, going into the weekend.

Elk City Elks Shine in Friday Night Lights

In an electrifying start to their football season, the Elk City Elks showcased their prowess with a commanding victory over Altus last Friday. The game unfolded under the lights of Hightower Stadium, and the Elks left no doubt about their capabilities on the field.

Quick Offensive Surge

Right from the kickoff, Elk City’s offense demonstrated their intention to dominate. Their experienced offensive line provided a solid foundation for a potent running game that set the tone for the entire match. As a result, Elk City established a comfortable 24-0 lead by halftime.

Altus’ Resilience and Turnover

Despite the Elks’ strong lead, Altus wasn’t ready to concede defeat. A well-timed turnover allowed Altus to create an opportunity, marching 45 yards to secure a touchdown. This play pulled them within a couple of scores at 24-6.

Game-Changing Play

However, the defining moment of the game came midway through the third quarter. Logan Webb’s precise 79-yard pass to Jeremiah Jackson extended Elk City’s lead to 30-6. This play shifted the momentum definitively in the Elks’ favor and put the game out of Altus’ reach.

Closing the Match in Style

The fourth quarter continued to be a showcase of Elk City’s skill. Catch Geno’s 40-yard touchdown strike to Cole Buie added to the lead, culminating in a resounding 36-6 victory for the Big Elk team.

Domination in Yardage

The statistical comparison reinforced Elk City’s dominance. With a total yardage of 394 compared to Altus’ 113, Elk City’s superiority was evident in every aspect of the game.
